Why do we need to upgrade?

Fire rated doors not only protect against raging flames that tear through buildings but also prevent the spread of hazardous smoke. Occupants of a building are more likely to experience fatal/serious injury through the inhalation of smoke than to deadly fires. Which highlights the importance of these doors to protect lives. 

In the event of multi-occupational buildings, it's required of property owners to provide fire rated doors to prevent the spread of fire throughout the building between rooms and floors. 

Fire rated doors allow between 30-60 minutes fire protection when properly upgraded. These are known more widely as FD30 and FD60 doors. Which have alternative versions to protect against smoke. This gives occupants valuable time to escape a burning building safely. While also giving the fire and rescue services time to arrive and extinguish the ravaging fire.

Reaching the Standards

A common problem throughout the UK is the integrity and safety of fire escape doors within all kinds of buildings. They act as both a means for occupants to escape in a burning building as well as a barrier against fires. It is crucial that fire rated doors meet the British and European standards in order to protect life and preserve construction. By upgrading doors to these standards it means fires are compartmentalised to the room they originate in. Preventing any serious rapid spread of flame throughout a building. Fire Resistance Test

Doors have to be rigorously tested and pass a fire resistance test at an accredited test centre. In accordance with British and European Standards in order to be accepted as a safe building by Building Control Officers. At our head office, they provide indicative fire testing for doors to ensure of its safety and integrity are proven to withstand high temperatures. Doors have to be approved in accordance with Document B of UK British Regulations, including British Standard BS 9999:2017.

Due to the historical value and original fabric within historic and listed buildings, old doors can't be replaced as this would take away from their historical value and the significance of the building.
