Scope of Works
Providing 60 minutes integrity to exposed timber joists using Envirograf HW system with a clear finish. Applied in a five coat application over existing coated timber. Done by using an adhesion primer and three coats intumescent paint (125 microns wet film thickness – each coat). A protective top coat was then applied which can be added to in subsequent maintenance programmes.
Specification
Five coats of HW 60 minute fire protection paint system applied to exposed joists as follows:
- One coat primer at 10m2/L.
- Three coats of Intumescent paint at 8m2/L.
- One coat top coat at 10m2/L.
This product is fitted by two painters working from inside the roof space. The paint application is not straightforward i.e., it's not like spray applying 4 coats of emulsion paint. The intumescent paint can’t be left overnight without a top coat. This means the painting has to be done in small batches (allowing for sufficient drying times) in a single day. If it not done correctly the risk is clouding/peeling and bubbling of the paint, due to trapped moisture. Evidently resulting in the failure of the systems protective qualities and poor aesthetics. The materials must be stored correctly and the works must be carried out in a consistent temperature above 10 degrees with ample ventilation for drying. Our supply and fit service ensures the best finish and the proper application of the coatings i.e. to the recommended Dry Film Thickness.
Once completed, we then certify the materials and workmanship. As well as linking the order to the invoice providing proof of purchase & application as well as traceability back to the specific factory batches.
Getting it Right First Time – FLAMMA Ltd Installation
General operatives do not usually have any oversight/experience to ensure the correct film thicknesses are applied and that the full coating depth is reached to ensure 60 minutes integrity. The downside of this is that clients are reliant on the general operative doing the job properly. But if they are not experienced, or they cut corners and/or are uninsured then that raises questions about competency. It also raises questions about their suitability to do the work. This then raises confusion over who holds responsibility and liability in the event of a fire.
The whole fire protection landscape has changed since Grenfell so it's vitally important that the product specification is correct. The materials must be ordered fresh from the factory through the official Irish Envirograf office. Furthermore, the audit trail created between manufacture, installation and certification must be in order.
Using Flamma Ltd provides the following:
- testing -site visits and reports. Testing ensures the product has been applied as recommended and you are not just relying on someones word. Vital in court cases/claims situations for apportioning liability.
- The photo survey and report. This highlights each stage of the application and is a pictorial record if a court case or claim occurs.
- Insurances.
- Certifications - materials and workmanship. In order to comply with the Building Regulations and backed up by test reports and photo survey as well as traceability back to the factory.
- Competency to carry out the work.
