Specialist/Listed Buildings

When specifying an element of a building, fire safety is a crucial consideration, and it's particularly important in the selection of doors in order to delay the spread of fire and smile from one area to the other and to provide means of escape.

The British standards give recommendations for the specification installation and maintenance of timber-based fire doors and other building elements. Flamma can supply and install products that have been demonstrated to meet these minimum standards. As well as meet the requirements we provide solutions that respect the historic fabric and retain its character whilst meeting minimum standards.

Door upgrading

It is much more difficult to achieve an FD 30/60 fire door with historic doors as each door is unique and does not conform to standard construction or detailing.  A fire doors compliance is based on its performance as an entire unit ie door and frame ironmongery etc, rather than its individual components. The performance of a fire door will depend on how well it has been installed and maintained.

Historic doors can often be upgraded to provide the required fire protection performance. However, it is important to understand the criteria to be considered own order to provide a certified fire door. Flamma can provide solutions to provide certification for many historic doors.
